The 76ers beat Boston in game 7 giving Embiid his first game 7 win in his career. The 76ers dominated in the first half playing through their big four, Maxey, Embiid, Edgecombe, and George. Boston struggled early in the game due to them missing shots. 76ers started to figure out that they could beat Boston off the dribble in the first half and started to dominate in the 1 on 1 game.
In the second quarter however it was a bit of a different story. Boston started scoring through their playmakers in the pick and roll like Jaylen Brown and Payton Pritchard getting screens from Neemias Queta. They also started to make a lot of shots behind the arc to cut the lead down going into halftime.
In the second half Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid came up big for the 76ers scoring at a high volume. The 76ers started to force the Celtics to give Embiid many mismatches and Embiid was scoring often on them. Maxey was also scoring and creating for others through his 1 on 1 play. Jaylen Brown and Derrick White came up clutch for Boston narrowing down the nearly 20 point lead Philly had on them. Towards the end of the game Boston kept in it but it wasn’t enough. If they would have played in the first half like they did in the second half there could have been a different result.
Boston heavily focused on their three point shots throughout the game while Philly seemed to focus more on getting mismatches for their stars to go to work. Boston was allowing Philly’s stars to get to the basket and get the mismatches they wanted pretty easily and they weren’t shooting a high percentage from the three. This ultimately was the reason they lost game 7 to the 76ers. Advancing Philly to the next round to face off against the Knicks.
